Gillian Byerly, council director of the Capital Area Girls On The Run program was a recent speaker at the Colonial Park Rotary Club. Girls On The Run is a nationwide non-profit organization that serves 1.2 million girls in all fifty states. The organization, which was started in 1996, runs the largest 5K race in the country. The program focuses on teaching young girls essential life skills and how to make healthy choices in life with an emphasis on character development, caring for those in the community, confidence building life skills and making contributions to society thru community service projects. The local Capital Area Girls On The Run chapter, established in 2011, serves girls in twenty school districts throughout Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry and Lebanon Counties.
