In May, we were proud to recognize the following three students - each one received a $5,000 Norman P. Hetrick Scholarship whose funds are raised our members, from our annual Norman P. Hetrick Golf Tournament.
Our first winner was Chanel Dingle. Chanel attends Dauphin County Technical School, has a career GPA of 90.48 and ranks 45th out of 234 students. Her counselor, Brian Deal, states in his letter of recommendation: “Chanel challenges herself with a strong academic course load and works to overcome various obstacles throughout her career. Chanel has participated in our school’s Four Diamond Mini-Thon over the past two years and helped to raise money for cancer research. Chanel’s determined attitude, focus and dedication will lend itself to her being successful.” Chanel has received a National Technical Honor Society Certificate and was selected as a Student of the Month.
Our second Norman P. Hetrick Scholarship winner was Agatha Chmielewski from Bishop McDevitt. Agatha has a cumulative GPA of 4.0 and ranks 32nd out of 192 students. Agatha is captain of the cross-country team; member of the track and field team; participates with Big Sister Foundation; Future Business Leaders of America; National Honor Society, Math Honor Society and many other activities. Her Guidance Counselor states, “Agatha has taken a majority of honors level classes and has challenged herself by taking on two Advanced Placement classes. During her sophomore year she challenged herself physically by running in the Annapolis Half Marathon for 15 and under, in which she placed second.
Our third Norman P. Hetrick Scholarship winner was Jocelyn Fleisher. Jocelyn attends Central Dauphin, has a cumulative GPA of 94.6 and ranks 65th out of 391 students. Jocelyn volunteers at the college and career center and tutors students in Algebra II and Geometry. Jocelyn encouraged the students and shared in their joy when they saw improvement in their academic progress. Her guidance counselor stated: “I remember receiving a phone call from a parent of one of the students who was being tutored. She raved about her son’s improvement in math and about Jocelyn’s ability to teach him.” #payingitforward #rotaryscholarships #colonialpark #normhetrick
